Knife shock

Knife, when we hear this noun, we’ll probably think of the kitchen or cooking. People normally use knife in this way. However, in England, the criminals use it to stab the victims as a deathblow. The England government have banned the guns because it’s too dangerous and easy to kill people. However, they have never thought of knife crime would become their culture, just the American gun’s culture.

Here is a quote about the comment from the Mirror:

“And police figures to be released this morning are expected to show 25,000 stabbings were committed in England and Wales in the last 12 months.

It is the first time the Government has given the go-ahead for such statistics - which will add to the public fears.

The year's crime figures are also expected to show a total of around one million violent offences including murder, rape and robbery.”

England’s knife crime had been happening seen 1980s. The government thought banning the gun would help to decrease the crime or victims. However, if people do not try to change their evil heart, it’s useless to ban weapons because they can just kill one another by hands. In addition, we can also see the statistic from the Mirror, 25000 victims died in 12 months because of knife stabbing. It was a horrible numbers for only with one weapon’s crime. At last the writer says that the government did a wrong decision 50 years ago that makes the society bad now.

In the Scotland city, Glasgow, the gangs always act in the night time. during a bank holiday weekend there were 50 knifing incidents were reported to police. Some victims were even stabbed in train and in front of their family. In Glasgow, this town only has 100 million residents but it has already had around 170 gangs. A self defense teacher, Simon Leila, describes how he escaped from a backstabbing. There is also an interview with a young teenage gang member. I reckon the government should put the penalty of knife crime higher. If they only put the knife criminals in jail for several years, they may not be scared of it. Of course, if they put a death penalty, that will be too serious. Therefore, I suggest the government should start from the education.

There is one case about a poor boy: Paul Erhahon, a 14 years old English boy, who was attacked by two young teenage gangs by knife. The accident happened in east London, Leytonstone. The detectives were still looking for witnesses because it was very important to have witnesses to prove the accident in the court. However, one of Erhahon’s friend said Erhahon was one of the knife teen as well, so it wasn’t surprised that he got attacked. On the other hand, there was a statistic about the knife crime in the world, and it showed that England, Wales, Scotland, Spain and Portugal were in the top five countries. We can see that they’re mostly based on Europe.

I mean, why there is not many knife crimes in Asian countries? Is it just the culture problem or the education problem? It's very hard for the government to set the law that teenagers cannot buy knifes from shops or everyone cannot bring a knife out. Knife is small, and easy to hide. If I have the idea to prevent the knife crime growing at this moment, I'll quickly email to the British Government.

I'm also pleased knife crime is not popular in New Zealand. I would like to say the education in New Zealand has done well. Maybe there are teen crimes, but it must not as much as England or U.S.A.

In Hong Kong, you can hardly find a knife crime even there are robberies. They normally just use the knife to scare the victim, but after they get what they want, they just flee away and never stab the victim. If they stab the victim and get caught, they’ll be charged with a serious law which the court will put them in jail for more than 5 years.

In addition, I'm very happy to see three senior England players, Rio Ferdinand, David James and David Beckham has joined the activity to help demonstrating the teenagers to stop the knife crime in England.

Alfred Hitchcock was interviewed by the newspaper last month and he said there were 200,000 youths who carried knives and then talked of putting them in community programmes. The football players spoke of a deterrent and of equating sentences for knife crime with gun crime and were enthusiastic about serious punishment making the streets a lot safer. And they even use movies to help educating the young teens. Hope they can learn from their favorite idols.
